Default Import 3D objects from Illustrator?

Illustrator has this nifty 3D capability now. Wondering if one can import these objects into after affects.

On this topic, wondering if AE can handle objects modeled in 3D programs with comprehensive export facility? or does it only handle 2D objects in a 3D space?

Thanx

The 3D extrusion offered in Illustrator is a 2D rendition of 3 dimensions. It won't have any 3D properties in AE.

As you say, AE only works with 2D objects in 3D space. The third party plugin Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator allows true 3D modelling within AE, with the Pro version supporting import of 3D models.

Thanx for the quick and succinct answer. This might be a good one for the AE 3D workspace FAQ.

The Zaxwerks Classic version plug-in you got with 6.5 AE (not sure if you get it with 7.0?) allows you to import Illustrator text and shapes saved in a specific way into AE as 3D text & shapes. Go to the Zaxwerks forum on creativecow.net for more info.
