Default Special (alt) Characters in AFX 7

Hello,

There was an archived topic on this, but no real solution.

I work at a bilingual TV station, and VERY frequently need characters with accents. Usually we use alt-codes (eg. alt+0233), but we can't do this in v.7. Right now we have to use Character Map (which is a big pain considering the amout we use them) or we have to go back to v.6.5.

We use Windows XP Pro.

Does anyone know of a fix for this?

Thanks,

Glenn

How about copying and pasting between a text document that has all your accented character? Maybe use a macro utility?

I don't have any problem adding accents on the Mac version of AE7 using the option key, FWIW. Ordinarily I find comments suggesting a platform switch to be obnoxious, but if this is really a big issue for your studio it might be something to consider.

Oh Aaron, you had to go there! I was going to say something about switching, but decided to bite my tongue.

I should add that I don't work with accented characters very often on AE, so don't take my word for it, find someone with a Mac and download the AE demo to put it through the paces of your workflow. But a simple option-n then n gets me an enye in Mac AE. This is the sort of stuff you are looking for, right, Glenn?

Windows' character codes have always seemed really cumbersome to me by comparison.

Thanks for replying guys, and for the suggestions.

Unfortunately, switching to Mac is not an option. The whole plant is Windows, as are the Avids we run AFX off of. We ask them for so many toys as it is, I think if we asked them for Macs now, they'd probably spontaneously combust.

Plus, this should be a non-issue. AFX has always done this, right up until now. I have a feeling someone must have missed a few lines of code, because they wouldn't leave out such a core Windows function...would they?

I'm trying to contact Adobe to find out. In the meantime, I guess I'm stuck copying and pasting.

Sorry Glenn, I'm stuck using Charmap too. Let me know if you figure it out. There's also been some weird clipboard/pasting issues requiring relaunching Æ when trying to paste characters in from Charmap. The latter issue may be specific to my setup, though.

Hey stev=o, I haven't had any problems or issues with copying pasting, so maybe it is your setup.
I've been trying to 'spam' adobe support to find out what's what. I'll keep you posted.

Adobe just got back to me, and said that the "engineers are aware of this problem and are currently working on a resolution". So Hopefully in the next update...
