FrameMaker Special Characters

I am trying to include a check mark in my do***ent. I am currently running the FrameMaker 7.1 version on my Windows OS. I printed out the FrameMaker Character Sets for Windows help book. I have changed the ZapfDinbat font as the manual suggests (inserting the % symbol between the * and Font) and when I type in the checkmark dingbat character in FrameMaker, I get the standard character set. What is the deal? The ANSI no. is 052 and the hex code is \x34. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Create a character tag for the Dingbat (shift-F8 to set all "AsIs" and
then set Dingbat for the font family) and apply it to the "4"
character after you've typed it.

Another hint - make sure you are typing in the ANSI number from the number keypad, not the numbers above the alpha keys. The ANSI numbers only work from the numbers keypad (at least that has been my experience).

I can get a check mark by typing 3, highlight it, right-click, choose Fonts and select Zapfdingbats. I also can get a check mark using the ANSI code. Hold down alt and press 052 on the numeric keypad. But that is using Windows XP and not OS. I don't know if it makes a difference.....

Frankie: You're a lot better off using a characer tag. What you're doing is creating a local override.
