Default Cannot move objects in Layout/Design mode

To preface this cry for help, I am new to GoLive.

If I drag an image into a new site under the layout mode, I'll first save the object for the web. After the image is directly placed in the layout mode, if I go to move the image, GoLive won't let it move. It seems as if the image is locked in the position it was imported. I can't figure it out to save my life what I am doing wrong. Everything that I have read says that the image should move anywhere I want on the design.

Any suggestions?

Very seldomly that happens to me, are you in a layout grid by any chance?

Normally if you select it you can use the arrows and then after it has moved from its stubborn state then the mouse. also is you need a final adjustment use the arrow keys whilst holding down the alt key.

BTW Layout grids are not the way forward but old habits die hard!

Well, I am in the Layout mode. I am a designer, definitely not a programmer.

I first tried dragging in a layout grid to the Layout view, and then moving the image on top of that. The object won't move. Then I did it without the grid. The object won't move.

I am pretty proficient in InDesign. I read that it would be easy to package something for GoLive in that program. SO, I already designed the entire layout for the Web site and packaged it into GoLive. All I want to do is transfer everything I created in InDesign to GoLive. BUT GoLive won't let me move anything.

It will let me move an object from the top to the bottom. For instance if I have 2 images in the layout view then I can put one on top of the other, but that is it. Which does me no good. I am actually thinking the program hates me.

Oh, also, using the arrows won't allow me to move anything either.

Sounds like you're wanting to just be able to drag things to where you want them to be on the page? If so, you're going to have to first put a grid on the page that's larger than the image, then you should be able to move the image around *within the grid* but you can't just drag the grid around on the page. Another option is to use a layer, and put the image in that. You can drag the Layer to where you need it to be.

But, in my opinion, the real answer is just that it's not as easy as you're thinking it should be. To get real a real understanding of the layout (and the fact that type and elements can move around and resize depending on the browser, platform and visitor settings) you're going to need some knowledge in HTML and CSS, or at least become pretty familiar with GoLive's more automated layout tools.

Or, I may have misunderstood the question entirely :-)

No, I think you understood the question just fine. Thank you for taking time to respond.

You see, I've read an entire book on GoLive and have read article after article online on converting an InDesign package into a GoLive site. They all make it sound like what I am trying to do is as easy as pie.

The problem is however, when I draw a layout grid that is the size of the Web site I want to create, and then bring a file in and place it on that grid ... the object will not move. (The object is by far smaller than the grid.) It just says locked in its position.

If I drag a layer in the new site window to work within it's confines, I can make the layer bigger, but GoLive won't let me move the layer from the original position it landed in when I dragged it in from the toolbar.

If I click on the image and move it somewhere, a transparency of the image moves, but as soon as I release the button on the mouse, the transparent placeholder reunites itself with the original image in its original place that it was when it was pulled in. Hence, the image doesn't move at all.

I am really at a loss, could it be anything else?

Not sure - doesn't sound right, you should be able to drag images around on a grid, or move any layer content around via drag and drop. Can you post a link to your test page showing an image on a large grid? Then I can download it here and try to see if it's a problem in the page, or maybe something wrong with your GoLive installation.

Nate, you are one in a million.

I don't have a test site yet, so I guess I'll try restarting the program a couple times more, and if that doesn't work, perhaps I will reinstall the program, and if that doesn't work then I will surely throw my computer out of the window in disgust.

Thanks so much.
