Hidden items - How to I bring them forward?

Hello:
I'm having trouble with several hidden items. "Preferences" will not appear when I click for it. GL seems to think it's open, however, because it will not let me do anything else until a release it by clicking "enter." How can I get Preferences to show itself?
I've also managed to slide my site window far enough up, under the toolbar, so that I cannot access it to move or resize it. I've tried restoring the toolbars to the default, closing and opening the site, etc., but I can't seem to be able to get it to show its window top.
Any thoughts out there?

Have you tried Window > Cascade and tile > Cascade?

....or to increase your screen resolution to pull in the out of screen elements?

I'm embarrassed that I didn't think of that... I knew there had to be a simple fix. It worked great. Thanks!

Any thoughts on why Preferences won't come up? I've tried CTL K. Same result.
