Default AI 10 NOT SAVING-CRASHING INSTEAD

I am working on a G5 OS X (Panther) system using AI 10. I can open illustrator, create things, but not save. When I try to save, the program completely shuts down.
I deleted my on-line plug in(didn't work), but I'm not sure how to trash my AI preferences or do repaired permssion.
Those are the only suggestions I saw so far that could possibly help me. Any further suggestions?

Prefences is in Home/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator.

Repair permissions is in the OSX applications foler Utilities/Disk Utility. Select your hard drive then click repair.

Also if you're running Norton Antivirus, disable it.

I've tried all of the above, and nothing has affected it.

Any other suggestions?

Might be a corrupt font. Verify fonts. Delete Adobefnt.lst files. Do a search their all over the place. Do not delete the Adobefnt.db, by the way.

The list goes on....
I've tried repairing permissions/trashing AI prefernces/removing adobe on-line plug in/doing a safe boot/creating a test user/re-installing the program/disabling my fonts/changing my default printer.

The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling the OS.

Well, we also don't know what other 3rd party programs you have on your computer, so the list could be alot longer. Entourage, Norton, and an old version of Spell Catcher conflict, that I have read so far.

A big key is doing things in order. But you haven't said - Do you have the AI10.03 update? I assumed you did since running a G-5. And running which Panther - 10.?

Did you disable fonts, then remove the Adobefnt.lst lists, then trash AI preferences, then repair permissions? Do you have your peferences unlocked if you are the administrator? After all this, it should be safe to reinstall AI, but after the reinstall then repair permissions again.

The only other suggestion that I can think of is creating a new user with administrative privileges to see if AI works. If it does, you have a corrupt user account.

Maybe someone else can help out here?
