"Can't open the Illustration" message
Out of 100 Illustrator users, we have had a handfull of "Can't Open the Illustration" corrupted documents. Almost all of them from the same 3 users. We have discovered the trigger. This is from our internal email warning about this...
"Can't open the Illustration" damaged files seem to occur under the following conditions:
1) the document has enveloped type with an appearance on the type
2) the envelope is set to Edit Envelope
3) you check for process colors by merging all ink colors to a single custom color, THEN undo
4) you save the document (only one time)
You wont know it immediately, but the saved version of the file has been corrupted. If you close it now, you won't be able to open it again.
How do I avoid this?
5) make a minor change (draw a small box and delete it)
6) Save again
This seems to clear out the corruption and the file saves cleanly.
The solution in a sentence #1:
- If you merge colors and then undo, you need to save the document TWICE before you close it.
The solution in a sentence #2:
- If you merge colors and then undo, you need to close the document WITHOUT saving.
ADOBE, THIS IS A SERIOUS BUG.
