Flat Background shows up in GoLive

Friends:
Just spent a couple of hours reading up on "transparency". I created a design in Illustrator that is a rhomboid shape and not the square of the artboard. The no-fill areas show up white in GoLive, but I want the GoLive page background to show and not the white.
This must be an easy setting, but I can't figure it out. Please help.
