Default Legacy EPS vs IllustratorCS EPS

Does anyone have any idea why a legacy eps (version8) is so much bigger than a CS native eps?
Hi guys. On a quicksilver running CS and 10.3.5.
A printer requires a hoarding designed in Indesign as an eps, so as to drop into Quark. The document is 3048mmx1524mm (half size). Document contains 1 (100mb) tiff file and some text.
Having exported eps from Indesign i attempted to place into picture box in Quark. No luck, so i open the eps in Illustrator and resave as both a Legacy EPS as well as a native Illustrator CS EPS.
These then both place perfectly in Quark, as well as print.
Interestingly though, the 2 files are very different in size. The Native CS eps is 40mb whereas the Legacy eps is a whopping 400mb. Bearing in mind that the file will be used to print an outdoor hoarding - 6096mmx3048mm, i am inclined to send the printer the 400mb file, but at the same time i wonder whether the 40mb CS version will do as good a job?. Is it perhaps a compression thing? On screen the 2 files look identical resolution / quality wise.
I must add that a little transparency is used in the Indesign file. This has resulted in the final eps's containing a good few embedded raster images. Equal amount for both files though.
PS. a Press optomised pdf of the file is only 3mb. :-)) We love pdf's.
If anyone can shed some light on this i would be well happy. Basically are Illustator CS eps files repro friendly, bearing in mind the apparent difference in file size.
