Default Why is my axis point not moving with my object?

In CS I have had trouble when I drag a vector object, the axis (center point) does not follow along when I drag the image. Then when I go to scale the object it scales it from the axis point that stayed behind, usually nowhere near the objects new position. The only way to fix this is to deselect the object and select it again, making for unnecessary steps. Is there a simple preference option that I have overlooked?

With the objects selected, hit Return or Enter. In the dialog that comes up, hit Cancel.

That's all well and good but In every other AI version it has stayed centered when I move the object. Is there a way it can stay centered without having to hit return and all that? Not sure why this changed in CS.

I don’t think you can change it, unless there’s some arcane hack you can make to the Prefs file.

In AI 10 the set axis was relative to the objects. In AI CS it’s universal. Both have advantages. It was thought, I guess, that the universal method offered more advantages, so it was changed.

Checkout this title in the forum, from November. I'm afraid it explains all
"How Do I Carry Rotation Point With Copy?"

It only keeps its set origin when you have a transform tool activated. If you draw a rectangle and then move it, the center point stays centered. If you activate the Scale or Rotate tool, and then hold down Command and drag, the axis does not move with the object. This is a convenience for when you want to do multiple transforms around the same axis, and it’s not too difficult to reset. It’s much more difficult to do multiple transforms using the same axis if you have to set it again after each transform.

That's a good point (no pun intended). Is there any way to switch it back?

in article 2ccfd3c9.-1@webx.la2eafNXanI, T.J._Harley@adobeforums.com at

To scale from a specified vector first, click with your scale tool where you
want the scaling to originate, then drag outward in the direction you want
to scale.

Kind Regards,
