Default How does ID handle placed images when printing?

Hello,

My question is how does ID handle the hidden part of the image that is
cropped with the bounding box, in regards to printing?

With Quark, my understanding was that Quark would process the entire
image file, incuding the hidden areas of the image if the placed image
is an EPS file. But if the file was a TIF, it would only process the
visible portion of th image cropped in it's "container".

Does ID handle native ai & psd files like quark handled TIFs?

If I place a 500mb native .ai or .psd file into an ID doc and crop 50%
of the image with the bounding box, would it process slower than a ID
doc with a 250mb image already cropped?
