Default IDCS v3.0.1 Unable to Package File or Outline fonts

Hello,
I am a sporadic user of ID on a Mac.
I have a business card file that I have saved and imported from my old PageMaker into ID CS 3.0.1
I try to export the file for printing; save as EPS and I can't get the fonts to come thru. I tried to "Outline" (?) the fonts with the file, tried to Package the file - it crashes on 'Save'What do I do?
The file is small ±400kb when I try to save as JPEG for printing it is too small and jaggy. The service only wants JPEG or EPS files for printing.
I tried different things and none seem to work, Can someone refer me to a source, tutorial or point out the obvious to me?
Thank you,
Jacek

Export a PDF and then from Acrobat save as EPS.

Try a PDF. If the printers won't accept a PDF they are far behind the times and are best left there.

Take it back, the plot thickens - as they say. I just saved the file as PDF - Came out fine.
Opened it in Acrobat and saved again as EPS into a Folder.
Opened the folder --- and it is empty??
Nothing in it.
What am I doing wrong?

Wow, that was quick!
Thanks for your suggestions.
Unfortunately, as I have mentioned earlier they do not take PDF's - for whatever reason.
But saving as a PDF and then as EPS is an idea I haven't thought of!
I do have the Acrobat 6 Professional. Will give it a try, thank you Robert.
By the way do you have any ideas why it will not allow me to "Outline" the fonts? Even though they are "On" and embeded?

Fonts cannot be embedded in InDesign. You want to outline the fonts, you just select the text frame and Command-Shift-O. Done.

Packaging the file won't affect exporting as EPS. If you first outline the fonts then export as EPS you should be just fine.

I urge you to either ditch this printer or watch them like Big Brother.

I suspect the printer won't accept PDF because they are cheap and not very good. Such companies tend to hire from the bottom of the talent stack, and such people are usually poorly trained. Such a company is unlikely to spend time and money training their low wage staff only to have them leave for better paying jobs.

The prevailing attitude is, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I do what I can to understand to workflow of my suppliers. When they won't accept the most widely accepted print format over decade after it's development and long after their competition has, I fire them.

Scott,
thanks, I think your assesment of the service is spot on.
I was trying to test out their service after spotting their flashy add in one of the magazines.
They do very inexpencive printing on 'plastic' and 'silk' cards. More of a novelty.
On the other hand when I am able to select the text frame, the 'Outline Font' option is still greyed out.
I guess I'm a little over my head here and need to go back to basics with the application.
Too many programs to learn and keep up with.
Thank you,
Jacek

Is the text editable in InDesing? If you've placed a graphic of text, tou won't have the option of outlining it.

Care to email the file? leftnotracks at yahoo dot com

Scott,
yes thank you to both.
I will mail the file privately.
I'm going nuts trying to figure this out.
