Please share your experiences moving from Quark to InDesign
My biggest problem with the conversion was trying to forget 'how' Quark worked, and 're-learn' a new way - even terminology. Runaround is text Wrap. Every time I mentioned runaround to my mentor, he looked at me sideways... ok, Text Wrap then!.
Seriously, we changed over recently and we certainly did not put all of our eggs in the one basket. Change one mac and one operator first. Let them 'understand' it better. Books, videos, online tutorials helped us enormously!. After a couple of weeks, and re-creating from scratch rather than importing, and converting, we had ourselves fully converted over with every mac and operator in CS3 withing 3 months.
The first person to switch was sent to learn the program, and we hired a fellow who claimed he 'knew' ID to help when our first guinea pig returned from learning from the experts. This proved invaluable.
Because a Quark user understands what they need to do, you'll be surprised how easily the transformation will take place.
Just remember one thing. You are learning a new program that works differently and has different terminology.
Forget the way Quark works when learning InDesign. (easer said than done though, I know)
