It was so bad I dug the bag out of the trash for a look see. I'm almost
positive it was banquet. I made hamburger helper, years ago, which was
better than this stuff.

Its designed to push the buttons of the soccer moms. You get them to buy
a bag of simple frozen ingredients at a large premium but pimp it with
the warm & fuzzy idea that it saves lots of time and it allows them to
prepare real "home cooked" food for their families.

Pretty much, and add that they have an operations manual and training
that requires that each location serve the same salt/sugar laden industrial food.

That may be, but there is nothing that says the local franchise
owner/manager can't do some things his own way with the ingredients
he's got, plus there are good owners and not so good owners and good
kitchen staff and not so good kitchen staff. In addition, much of the
fresh stuff is aquired locally depending on the area and local tastes.

You're tarring all the operations with one brush, which really isn't
fair. OTOH, there are lots of other good places to eat.

Which brings up a brand of "skillet" food that is pretty good:
Bertolli Dinner for Two

I've had their spinach ricotta ravioli, and a couple of others of
their.

(Disclaimer: I've tried other pre-prepared dinners, and none of them
have impressed me, at all. Bertolli is very good!

It's frozen, in a bag as many are, now, the sauce is in cubes and
there are chunks of tomato, slices of garlic, real olive oil, and the
whole thing actually tastes pretty good!

Now, I know that, if many of you wanted to make these dishes, you
probably would make them better, but for me, I wouldn't take the time
to make all that, and the frozen, skillet dinner thing, when it's of
this quality, is GREAT!

How does it demand long hours of your time? Do you sit and stare at the
crockpot?

Hint, taking a long time doesn't mean it takes a lot of YOUR time. You
can do other things, like go to work. I wouldn't use the thing, and
there are plenty of good reasons not to use it, but your reason is not
one of them.

Yes there is, it's called Corporate Management.

They want everything the same, since their brand and their product
covers a lot of geographic ground.

May be quite fair. Consistency is the main quality that chains want.
Really.

OTOH, there are lots of other good places to eat.

No doubt!!!!
