Default Friday night rant.., kebabs are rough

Hi

Way back we lived in Cyprus and their was nothing quite like the smell
of marinated chicken, lamb and vegetables (notably cron on the cob)
cooking on skewers in the open air

About 25 years ago a kebab shop opened in Wycombe specialising in
elephant's foot but you could still get skewers, but as a young buck,
doners with everything and extra chilli were the norm, so didn't
really matter.

Tonight (not sure why) Cindy really fancied a kebab, she had a doner
and I had chicken. When I got to the van, I sew the block preparing
mine..., he took chicken out of a tin pot and nuked them in a
microwave and splattered the whole thing with sauce. No skewers in
sight, and the chicken was bitty like you get in a chicken pie.
Cindy's didn't look much better, and I think it smelt like the meat
was slightly on the turn.

I'm really not sure what exactly makes these preparations a kebab.
There's definately a gap in the market for proper authentice, top
quality kebabish.

Good luck!

Our preferred place flame grill the chicken on skewers.

Donor is shit wherever you go, I like it though oddly, I try to go to my
'happy place' while eating it rather than allow myself to think what it may
be.

Hi! Fancy meeting you here! :-D

You may want to find another prvider for your kebabs. That place certainly
doesn't sound any good at all.

I'm lucky in that the local kebab house is excellent. The chicken kebabs
are proper decent pieces of chicken on a skewer, which are flame grilled as
you wait. They also do a "chicken doner", which is actually slices of
chicken on a vertical spit. That's very good too, although I have noticed
that chicken grilled this way loses its heat very quickly.

One thing that you don't seem to be able to get in this country is a
"gyros". That is slices of spiced lamb on a vertical spit. Instead we get
doner. Although everyone usually slags off doner, I really like it.
