"Phantom Gourmet" or "TV Diner"????
I rarely watch TV Diner, simply because of it's timeslot. I do watch
PG at least once a month or so IF the show isn't a rerun. One thing
that does bug me about PG is the tendency to feature more or less the
same kind of shows ad nauseum during the same season.... In the summer
it's usually clam shacks, lobster pounds, BBQ joints, plus hotdog &
burger shows, or some combination thereof. In the winter it's usually
Italian, steakhouses or sometimes Asian, but I think you get the idea.
One really bright spot was the "Credit Card Roulette" episode that
they did from one of the casinos in Conneticut. The idea is that they
have a group of guys with bulging credit lines. Each one puts their
card into an envelope and seals it. Into a box they go. People start
ordering whatever they want off the menu, including wine & any other
beverage they need to slake their thirst. Price doesn't appear to be
an object, as I saw some hefty priced courses ordered (like for ONE
person who got 10 dozen oysters on the half, probably at 30 bucks a
pop .) After each course, an envelope is drawn and the card inside
revealed. That person doesn't have to pay for dinner. The last card
left in the box pays for the group. This last show, the tab was almost
two grand. Lots of fun if you can afford it I suppose.
