Default prawns

Years ago; many, many years ago, at the Bodmin Jailhouse Nightclub, we used
to have battered prawns as starters, with fillet steak and salad to
follow..........

Thing is, those lovely battered prawns were always dead straight, with their
tail shells on......

Now then, I've had many, many different prawns over the years, but when I
cook them, after taking that yeukky black bit out, the prawns always curl up
whatever I do.......

Does anyone know how to cook prawns and keep them dead straight? And flat?

Idly wondering,

If it was years and years ago there is a good chance the prawns you were
eating was actually Monkfish.

Crunch...............

two thoughts:
were they really prawns, you know, night club, much fall down water, very
dark. It used to be common practice to serve angler fish tail instead of
scampi is those days, before we got a fondness for angler fish, and called
it monk fish.
the Japanese cook prawns with bamboo skewers in them to keep them straight,
but if yours were coated in batter, mmm?
I would go with the first thought.
Prawns curl, its a fact of life, accept, and enjoy.
cheers
