Hi,
I wanted to get to La Morra (in Brookline Village, on Route 9) before Restaurant Week ended on Aug. 17. Alone of the menus I checked, their three-course meal consisted of a salad, pasta, and entree (rather than salad, entree, and dessert). An additional $15 brought four glasses of wine, which seemed a good deal. Three of us had to reserve a few days in advance, and the planning was probably worth it. The restaurant is more than a bit noisy, though we were not too bothered by that problem. I started with a zucchini-basil cream soup, served warm, which was lovely. One friend had the salad, and another had bruschetta. There were more filling possibilities, incidentally, including panzanella, but we were trying not to over-eat. Next, I had a portion of lasagna which was both magnificent (clearly homemade pasta) and just the right small size to leave me some appetite for what came next. The other two in the group had the tomato risotto, which was a bit more filling, and superb (sun-dried tomatoes and excellent fresh tomatoes and a lot of spices). Main courses: I had a seafood stew which was a bit light on the seafood, but had a superb broth. One of the others had bluefish, and the third went for the skirt steak, which was lovely. Then the surprise: dessert actually was included, so it was four courses for $33.07. We tried one of each of the three choices: fruit sorbet, chocolate panna cotta, and nectarine cobbler (the clear winner). The wines, incidentally, were more than adequate (both in quality and quantity) for the price charged, and obviously were chosen to be good accompaniments to the food. Best news: it seemed from an insert with the check that the four-course deal continues through Labor Day, perhaps for $35 rather than $33.07.--Rob -- Rob Gross (617) 552-3758 Department of Mathematics http://fmwww.bc.edu/gross/ Boston College gross@bc.edu Chestnut Hill, MA 02467-3806 |
