Default Spaghetti - sort of

We had guests last weekend who bought all kinds of stuff and we need to use
it up before it goes bad. I'm thinking some sort of spaghetti. We've got
mushrooms, roma tomatoes, onion, pasta, olive oil, garlic...........

And shrimp that must be eaten.

Would you, could you, put the shrimp in the sauce or would it be better as
an appetizer with just butter and garlic?

Ideas are welcome!

I would sauté some garlic and ginger in olive oil with a good pinch of dried
chilli flakes, then toss in some chopped red peppers and tomato, then the
shrimp and service it on angel hair pasta.

Sounds like a plan. I've also got peccorino-romagiano (sp?) cheese to add
in. This will all be over fetticini noodles served with a side salad. Wish
we had good bread. Ooooooh, phone call to hubby who's on his way to the
store! Thanks!

Oh pshaw, on Sat 24 Jun 2006 09:11:31a, kilikini meant to say...

You could really do that either way... Shrimp in the sauce is excellent.
You could also sauté them in butter and garlic and top the sauced pasta with
them. My preference is for the latter.

I wouldn't waste good shrimp in a pasta sauce. Me, I'd cook, chill, and
nibble quietly for a couple days. -- -Barb

You've taken to servicing shrimps, have you, Dave? I'll light a candle. "-) -- -Barb

That's kind of what I was thinking. At least for an appetizer.

I don't see ginger in her original list.

I disagree with using the angel hair pasta, too. It's too delicate. A
nice solid penne would better serve the above ingredients.

Sauté up the 'shrooms, onions, garlic, and a heavy "oops" of red
pepper flakes (if available) in a little olive oil. Add in the
tomatoes towards the end for texture and mild carmelization. While
you're worrying the above step by constantly flipping, cook the pasta
to your preferred doneness. Drain the pasta, combine everything in the
skillet, add the shrimp in at this point; flip, flip, flip,
everything's coated and cooked. Voy-oh-la. Dinner in under 13 minutes.

So you would do the shrimp in it? That's what I thought! I didn't think it
would be bad that way. What's wrong with shrimp in tomato base? Why is it
objectionable to some people?
