I have a suggestion, tried out on various friends' kids, youngest was 6. Buy
pre-made bases. Set up lots of different toppings in appropriate
containers, also tomato puree, tomato ketchup, brown sauce and pesto. Then
let everyone choose their own combination, trying to steer the kids towards
spreading the base with something, then toppings, then cheese, but don't
worry if they pick something odd. We call this 'do it yourself' pizza, and
the kids really enjoyed getting to pick their own bits, arranging them in
patterns, putting items on their parents' pizzas and watching them cook.

Your grand-daughters are definitely old enough for this.

Yup, totally agree. I did this for a bunch of 7 or 8 year old girls a
couple years ago. I put the tomato puree on the bases and left them to it.
Fresh tomatoes, ham, sweetcorn, olives and cheese IIRC. Some liked to pile
it high others just added cheese. I had to cook them in 2 batches even
with our Brittania oven.

They all recognised their creations when cooked.

We left the tomato puree optional, as one of the (adult) participants claims
not to like tomatoes. Little does he know what he's been surreptitiously
fed hidden inside other dishes ....

Yes, it's amazing you could never feed wild boar to someone knowingly,
but if it's called organic pork...

Not only can I, but I will if they don't leave my garden alone! I
suggested to my old neighbor that he sharpen up a couple of knives and
we could lie in wait all night.
