On 22/5/07 17:29, in article
1179851357.515887.239400@q66g2000hsg.googlegroups. com,

Oooh! But ......sigh.......I have to go to Newton Abbot or just outside
Torquay for that. ;-) You can tell I've lived most of my life on a very small island! ;-)

Definitely, little salt, twist of black pepper. Bit of avocado, too. I
love avocados and can never understand people who say they taste of nothing.
In the 70s/80s, I remember doing a first course that involved mashing up
avocado, mixing in prawns, grated cheese and lemon juice, s&p and piling the
whole lot into avocado-shaped dishes and grating cheese on top then putting
them under a hot grill for a few minutes. Now I've remembered that I'm
going to do it as a supper dish for us one evening.

We took half a day to find it. We asked all and sundry, Child of
Prague??? Shakes of heads and much mutterings. Then I remember which
Church it was in so I asked for that instead. After walking miles
through dog poo infested streets, we found it. I was so disappointed,
I always thought it would be a lifesize statue, but I should have read
the history a bit more. It is actually a doll behind a glass case
with enough capes to make Victoria Beckham jealous.

It would appear that centuries before this prince or princess was very
ill and diagnosed as dying. The child's nurse gave him/her a doll for
comfort and lo and behold, he was cured. The doll has been revered as
a holy doll since then and attributed with miracles.

When I was small we had a Child of Prague Statue that someone had
brought back from Prague, it was metal and hollow, I can remember
pushing raffle tickets, from Black Baby Day at School, into the cavity
to ensure I won, I never did.

Small then.

We had ostrich whirls last Sunday (a bit like a 3 inch jam roll, but
made of ostrich meat wrapped in puff pastry cut into slices). There was
a farmers market on in town and I got to talk to the stall holder, which
I could not do the last time I saw them. When I have cooked them in the
past, the puff pastry has not risen too well. I whacked up the oven temp
and they came out great this time.

Most of the labels I have seen have been completely unreadable, you need a
microscope to be able to read them!
