Could give other instances. Probably a consequence of the modern attitude

Common sense seems to have disappeared along with good manners, or at least
some thought for others. What galls us is that we have a couple of polite
signs asking people to supervise their children and not to let them ride in
the trolleys. It is a regular occurrence to find children in trolleys and
wandering or running around totally on their own. That very same day I
heard a child tolling the bell outside our bedroom window and set on a
plinth above a fishpond. I looked out and there was a toddler, standing on
the plinth, ringing the bell. When I called down to ask who were the
parents, a chap said "I am" and I asked him if he was aware there was a drop
into a 4' deep pond right under the bell and he just nodded and said "oh
yes". I said "Fine, safe in your hands then" and closed the window. I
couldn't believe my eyes or ears.

I have had that. It is medium. I generally only drink dry. It was
Lustau sherry that I had never heard of.

Sorry, Mike. I think I misled you. See above.

Is it? Well, in that case, I shall buy some. If I have had it already,
I shall let you know.

The message <4ee768f63dj.gillett@higherstert.co.uk>
from Jane Gillett <j.gillett@higherstert.co.uk> contains these words:

I am pretty sure that a fair number of modern parents, have almost no
idea what to do because they have so little experience of being alone
with and responsible for their child. They are mostly at work, day to
day child rearing being done by the au pair, nanny, granny, all-day
nursery etc. The only time they spend alone with their child, is when
it's nanny's day off, or, the divorced parent's access weekend.

Nothing else could explain the look of bewildered confusion on parental
faces when little Boadicea, who wears nappies and a dummy but has not
yet mastered walking unaided, fails to select her preferred lunch menu
from the supermarket shelf/ restaurant menu; or the right place to cross
a busy street. "Wouldn't you like some grilled fennel/ to hold my hand
on the dual carriageway? Why not? Lets just talk about why fennel/
holding hands is a good choice to make. Otherwise, Mummy is going to
cry, and you'll have to sit on the naughty step when we get home."

Janet.
