Default Gluten free?

Does anyone here know if going gluten free can benefit a diabetic?

Generally not. Things that are gluten free are usually made with rice
flour which has a much worse effect on diabetics.

Your best bet *always* is to read the nutritional values on the package.
Anything that is more than 15 grams of carbohydrates with less than 5
grams of dietary fiber should be carefully considered in your meal plan.

x-no-archive: yes

It can if you cut out sources of gluten without replacing them with
other sources of starch/concentrated carbs.

If you choose veggies intead, it would benefit a diabetic a lot.

Don't know why it would. Gluten is a protein, and proteins convert to
glucose at a low steady rate -- just what one's looking for if one is
trying to control blood glucose through diet and other means. It's
carbs that can cause spikes in blood glucose.

It shouldn't. The only people who need to go gluten free are celiacs and
those with a gluten allergy/sensitivity.

Some people might mistakenly think that a gluten free diet is automatically
lower in carbs. However, if you eat gluten free bread, it is by nature
higher in carbs and usually in calories than regular wheat bread. And there
is usually less fiber. People on gluten free diets can also tend to eat a
lot of things like rice pasta, rice, potatoes and fruit. All of which need
to be eaten in controlled portions for diabetics.
