sublime daal

Greetings!
I had dinner at a Mumbai restaurant named Apoorva, a sea food place in the Fort area. They served a sublime daal, which they said (if I recall right) is from Ahmedabad, and was made with black lentils. Does any one know this daal? Can you direct me towards a recipe?
