Pesach Leftovers
I confess, this year I didn't make gefilte fish for the Sedarim. The
local Safeway didn't have much in the way of Pesach supplies (i'm not
impressed by grape-flavored matzo), but they did have a sale on the
Manishewitz Whitefish & Pike. It was $5 for six pieces--not only did
that beat the price of making it myself by about 1/4-1/3 (both salmon
and sole were $8/lb and I would have needed 1.25 pounds of each), but
factoring in the costs of the eggs, matzo meal, the energy cost, the
vegetables for the jelly, etc,.... in addition the time cost.
It turned out two guests didn't make it, plus another one announced she
doesn't eat fish, so in addition to the jars I bought for the week I
wound up with even more.
I've decided not to return them. We don't have long spells of hot
weather but we do get heat waves now and again. The patties/loaves will
make a nice topping for hot-weather salads.
B/, moderator hat off.
