Default Tomasso in Southborough

If you ever find yourself looking for a great authentic Italian meal,
look no further than Tomasso in Southboro. Tomasso is an upscale
trattoria and enoteca with a menu straight from Italy. They offer a
variety of antipasti (meat, vegetable and mixed), various salads, and
two courses (primi e secondi) w/sides (contorni). During my recent
visit, I sampled a variety of antipasti: The "Suppli" which are fried
rice balls (arancini) were perfectly fried (not greasy and with a good
crunch.) The "Ceci Fritti" (Chickpea fries - think rectangular falafel
served with an olive/red wine aioli sauce.) The "Pesce Fritti" which is
a sole fritter with a white sauce on a bed of julienned celery root and
celery. The "Cavalfiore Fritti" (cauliflower fritters - a bit bland by
itself but complements the other plates) and finally, the "Insalata di
Peperoni arrostiti" (marinated roasted peppers with white anchovies.) I
suggest that you go with a few people so that you can sample many
antipasti. If not, there is an antipasto platter but it comes at a
steep price of $36. For the main course, I had the tagliatelle alla
bolognese. The tagliatelle was made from fresh pasta and topped with a
creamy bolognese sauce. Absolutely wonderful dish and a refreshing
change from the multitude of Italian restaurants that offer no more than
boxed pasta with sauce from a can. The other dish that I tried was the
Saffron Shrimp Risotto. This was a big hit with my wife because the
rice was so well prepared and the sauce was creamy and buttery. We
saved some room for dessert and it too was excellent. We had the
"Semifreddo al Gianduja e Nociola tostata con Crema alla Vaniglia" The
semifreddo came in the form of rectangular bars and a dollop of vanilla
cream. Their espresso is served with gourmet chocolate chips and the
tea is exceptional. It is high quality loose leaf tea brewed in the pot
that brought a smile to my tea drinking companions. We did not have any
wine but I am told that it is also excellent. In fact, there was a
private wine tasting going on while we ate.

Buon Appetito! Tomasso's is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

ps. There's also a nice little gourmet Italian market in the same
complex called "Boiano's Italian Market" They have a deli, Italian
cookies (bulk), pizza from "Pizza Palooza", Bindi frozen desserts,
refrigerator cases with various Italian beverages, fresh Italian breads
and various groceries.

Tomasso is a truly fine restaurant. The ingredients are top notch,
preparation is, too. The atmopsphere is also casual, relaxed and
friendly. Great wine list.
