Default Fruit pie stuff for Thanksgiving

Okay, here's another Thanksgiving question. My task this Thanksgiving
is pies, plural. I'd prefer fruit pies (pumpkin is NOT a fruit), so
besides the obligatory apple, what works? You can't get fresh pie
fruit, and I dunno about using frozen fruit, and I refuse to use that
corn-syrup-goo crap in the cans. Do I have any other options, o
creative people of ne.food?

nantucket cranberry pie.

you mix fresh cranberries (which freeze well BTW), with walnuts and
sugar and put them in a pie plate. you make a pourable sweet batter and
pour it over that mix. bake. the batter settles around the cranberry/nut
mix.

it is different but technically a pie!

i can get the recipe from my wife's computer if you really want
it. google found many hits for it too.

also she likes to make the cranberry/orange sauce from the wilson farms
cookbook.

Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? I tried the jarred blueberries in
cobbler and they worked a treat.

Honestly, I'd give the frozen stuff a try as well.

I didn't bake with them, but I had a jar of cherries from TJ's once that
were very far from the kind of goopy corn-syrupy things I think Mary's
talking about. And you're right, the frozen fruits aren't bad,
particularly if you're going to bake them.

I've used pears and cranberries, plus a winter pie that's similar
to the one mentioned in another post w/ cranberries & walnuts,
some orange juice. You can get lots of ideas at:

Grandma's Rum Flavored Mincemeat is pretty tasty and available,
and you can always do a pecan pie.
