I hate sites that require registration.
The problem with grilling -- the only problem, as I see it -- is absence of drippings, hence lack of real gravy. Turkey needs gravy. -- Mary Malmros malmros@bcn.net Some days you're the windshield, other days you're the bug. |

When I've done it, it has been using the classic Southern method of rounding up all your buddies and their turkeys, gathering at the old gas station, and cooking your turkeys in the parking lot over a few communal cookers, so that you don't each have to mess around with the huge vat of hot oil. That said, driving across town with a hot turkey ain't that fun, either... -- Richard W Kaszeta rich@kaszeta.org http://www.kaszeta.org/rich |

Additionally, a lot of house fires have been started this way.

People deep fry candy bars too, but you're not about to see me doing it.
It's also rather risky. Most home cooks don't understand the implications of boiling oil well enough to be attempting this. -- Mary Malmros malmros@bcn.net Some days you're the windshield, other days you're the bug. |

Especially if you are boiling the oil. Deep frying doesn't (well, shouldn't...) involve boiling oil. Virtually all cooking oil will smoke and burn long before you get it to boil... Deep-fried turkey is quite good (and not oily at all if done right). I've done dozens, safely, but if you don't regularly deal with large quantities of oil it's a bit of a logistical mess. -- Richard W Kaszeta rich@kaszeta.org http://www.kaszeta.org/rich |
