If the Colossal Squid is similar to the Giant Squid, then
the high amonia content in the flesh would make it
unsuitable for human consumption.

Perhaps it's a freshness thing and the ammonia is from tissue breakdown.

I was thinking the same thing, but then I'm not a marine biologist.
Could this be a case of guys with too many degrees not perceiving the
obvious - the thing don't taste so good because it's been lying around
the lab for a few weeks?
