sometime in the recent past wwerewolff@yahoo.com posted this:

WW, that last post of mine was from news.motzarella.org - this is from their
new server, news.eternal-september.org, as you can see in the headers.

The main drawback, aside from no binaries, is that I see no posts before
2-02-09. That's where Google comes in, I guess.

It's getting so one needs to keep a couple of options/solutions for anything
you need to use on hand before the problem arises. For what it's worth,
Google's databases allow them to give customized service, but they can also
be used to satisfy a subpoena. I prefer Clusty.com at the minute because
they claim > We at Clusty don't track you. Our toolbar doesn't track you. We
don't want to know your email address.
Just my 2 cents & it's been slow around here anyway.

Hey, can you still get those great Maine sea urchins up there, or have
they all been fished out and/or shipped to Japan?

You know what you see here in California but no place else in the
country as far as I know? Fresh abalone.

Yes, there's still a pretty good green sea urchin industry up here. Season's
closed right now and the funny thing is, none of the sushi vendors here use
the local urchins. What we get has usually been sent to Boston and sold back
to the Maine restaurants.

Never get abalone here, but I understand even in Cali. it's quite expensive.
I keep asking for the geoducks, but even though they're listed as seasonal,
I can't seem to find out what season that is. :-(

I've had awabi (fresh abalone) at several sushi bars in New York. I
haven't had any recently though, since I seldom get to NY sushi bars
these days. So whether they still have it there, I'm not sure.

Or rather than their going downhill, perhaps your taste is improving
<gd&r>. As you may remember, I've long thought that Todai was very
poor.

I had it a few times when I was in San Francisco back in 2000.
I also had it a couple more times in Boston's Chinatown.

Nah, I don't think so. I still like decent sushi in copious
quantities, but Todai didn't seem to have the decent stuff any more -
like what they (controversially) called white tuna - and even the semi-
decent stuff was very scarce, the trays being largely empty. I don't
think I'm the only one who's perceived the quality decline.

Isn't it illegal to sell fresh abalone outside of California? You see
it in the fish markets here in CA. Awesome fresh seafood here,
vegetables too.

What is their "white tuna": albacore or escolar? There's a big
difference in their effects on many people's digestions.

Escolar. Anyway it seems to be gone now, along with most of their
other tasty little sushi fishies.
