We have a venerable Cuisinart DLC-7 Super Pro that needs a new bowl & lid.
Those will cost us about $75US delivered. I see all kinds of food
processors, including Cuisinarts, starting at about twice that price. The
DLC-7 hasn’t been used that much, which doesn’t mean the motor couldn’t die
tomorrow, but here’s the obvious question:
Would you invest the $75 in an 18-year-old machine, or buy a new one?
Any thoughts would be most appreciated!

I would probably get the new bowl. If you FP is 18 years old it is probably
made like a tank and won’t break, particularly if you are a light user.
If you don’t want to spend $75, you might take a look at this Ebay link
where you can find entire machines for less than that. You could get a used
machine for the bowl and lid and have a back-up motor.

I’d buy the bowl. $75 is $75; why spend it if you don’t have to?
Under such light use, your Cuisinart should last a good time longer.
What I read on the Web is that the new Cuisinarts are not built like
the older ones, anyway.
I have a DLC-7 myself and was dithering about spending that kind of
money for the plastic parts when I happened upon a pristine DLC-7 at
a local Goodwill for $15 (!). Solved that problem… If “lightly
used” doesn’t ook you out, you could try local thrift stores or eBay.

We have an old Cuisinart DLC-7 and swear by it. I agree with the other
posters that you think about
buying the bowl. In SF we can sometimes find parts locally for small
appliances for much
less than you would pay directly from Cuisinart. You might search locally to
see if there is something available.
Processor motors fail very rarely because of their extremely limited use, if
about the amount of time the motor is running. The bowl gets far more abuse

Reading others recommendations, mine is a little different. I would buy a
Kitchen Aid Food Processor. I’ve owned two (or three?) Cuisinart fp’s
since the late 70’s or early 80’s. Now that I have the Kitchen Aid Food
Processor, my processing days are much easier.

I’m not absolutely certain about this — but you might check it out — it is
made in France — where Cusinart USED to be.

The Cuisinart units used to be made in France by the folk who made the
original Robot Coupe food processors. At some point, Cuisinart moved
their production to China. Kitchen Aid’s food processor is now made by
the Robot Coupe people in France. It is simply the original Robot Coupe
design with a fancy base. It is extremely heavy duty, easy to clean, and
comes with exactly the right attachments, including a mini-bowl and
blade for doing small quantities.
Off hand without going thru the book, I like the fact that it has three
different sized bowls and three different blades for various chores. I’ve
had two ‘small’ Cuisinarts for chopping and they’ve both been dogs and went
by the wayside in no time. This KA will chop in the smaller bowl small
I’ve never been disappointed in making dough for bread; makes hummus (and
similar foods) like a dream — one might say that I needed a new blade —
Pashaw! I did replace blades AND bowls!

My bowl and lid is OK but it’s in the shop now to have the spindle replaced.
It developed a vertical crack and I thought about mending it with wire and
epoxy etc., but I’ve done that sort of thing in the past and ended up
getting a proper part. Mine is about 17 years old and I’ve really
“hammered” it, using it for bread doughs until I bought the Bosch.
