Default Beer in Bangkok ?

I will be traveling soon to Bangkok, Thailand for work. Are there any
local beers worth my while ? I lean to the Stouts, robust Pilsners,
and of course hoppy Ales. I would rather have a Diet Coke than a
light lager like Bud or Miller. I welcome comments. I hope to take a
few Tupper Hop Pockets on my carry-on bag for in flight refreshment.
Hopefully, TSA will not confiscate it at the check-in area.

Checked out www.bangkokbob.net yet? Comment: you don't go to most
warm-climate southeast Asian countries because of the great beer
selection. Light pilsner-style beers are the order of the day,
and if you're in Thailand, that beer is likely to be called "Singha."

TSA probably won't confiscate your beers, but the airline crew may
look askance at you consuming your own beer on-board.

I've visited four brewpubs in Bangkok.

- Taurus BrewHouse at the airport (to the right at the entrance). They serve
a decent strong ale along with a wheat ale and two bland lagers.
- Tawandang German Brewery at 462/61 Rama 3 Rd. A huge place serving good
beers, including a weizen, a dunkel and a helles.
- Brew Pavilion at 1053/1 Ratchadaphisek Rd., another huge place, serves a
weizen and a helles.
- Londoner BrewPub at 591 UBC II Bldg, Sukhumvit 33, which serves a bitter
and a pilsener.

I've carried my own beverage selection onto flights for the last
couple of years, ever since that time I met the biker couple in Vegas
and we drank bitch-pop from their carry-ons the whole flight home. The
only time I had a sideways glance from a stewardess was when my bottle
escaped me and went rolling across the isle, spilling Obsidian Stout
across the pale carpeting.

I made it there and back. The flight attendant on ANA even offered me
a glass for my Tupper's. That took me by surprise as I was trying to
be discreet. I guess that being in biz class made the difference.
Shoulda taken a 6 pack. TSA did not even say anything about the
bottles.

The Singha was better than I expected. I did not look for any
brewpubs since we were working 12 - 15 hour days. I had a pretty good
German Weiss beer at some Euro type bar near the JW Marriott on
Sukhumvit. The ANA Club at Tokyo/Narita airport even had a draft beer
dispenser that correctly angled the beer glass throughout the pour.
Kinda neat to see after 14 hours on a jet.
