100 passengers of a launch looted

BARISAL, Sept 25: A gang of armed dacoits looted the passengers of a launch
at three stations under Babuganj upazila of Barisal district Saturday
morning.

Victims and police sources said, MV Rajdoot, the double-decker launch plying
from Dhaka to Hularhut of Pirojpur district arrived at Bhangarmukh station
at 3:00 am, Rahimganj stoppage at 3:30 am and Baherchar launch station at
about 4:00 am Saturday morning. On an average about 30 to 35 passengers
arrived at each of the three stations to board the launch.

The armed dacoit gangs divided into three groups ambushed and attacked the
launch passengers at all the three stations just after their arrival and
injured them by beating and looted their cash and other valuables.

More than one hundred passengers were plundered by the looters and about ten
of them injured. Valuables worth taka four lakhs including taka 1.5 lakhs
cash were looted by the miscreants. The dacoits left the places safely by
trawlers with looted goods.

Md Salehin, OC of Babuganj police station visited the spots. No case was
lodged, nor any body was arrested in connection of the mass dacoities. Local
people believe the dacoities were carried out by outlawed Sarbahara gangs.
