Default US Now Accuses Brazil of Nuclear Arms Ambitions

Prensa Latina, Havana - April 6, 2004 http://www.plenglish.com

US May Have Interests Behind Nuke Pressures on Brazil

Rio de Janeiro, Apr 6 (PL) Continuing the scandal begun by a Washington
Post story Sunday, an unidentified US State Department official has
demanded that Brazil "proves it is not making nuclear arms by permitting
more intense inspections of its uranium enrichment plant."

The Brazilian Foreign Ministry reaffirmed in a note Tuesday that its
nuclear program has strictly peaceful ends, according to the Brazilian
Constitution, and is under close safeguard by the International Atomic
Energy Agency and the Argentine-Brazilian Accountability and Control
Agency.

Although Brazilian officials cooperate fully with the normal IAEA
inspections, that agency has safeguarded the nation's technological
secrets.

The Post article quoted US authorities as saying that Brazil´s present
technology for enriched uranium could be converted from production of
electricity to atomic weapons. It also included a statement by former US
Nuclear Negotiator James E. Goodby comparing Brazil with Iran and North
Korea (on Washington's "evil axis" list).

Such report caused indignation from several ministers and congress
people
in Brasilia, which rigorously fulfills its nuclear obligations.

Brazilian authorities attribute this campaign to certain US sectors
with
acquisitive interest in Brazil's ultra centrifugal process for enriching
uranium, a process owned by only six countries in the world, the United
States not among them.

Good for Brazil! They have a legitimate need for nuclear energy, as they
have a rapidly expanding economy and no native energy sources to speak of.

But even if they are pursuing nuclear weapons, so what? In another
newsgroup I was just discussing the UN Security Council and commented
that the only apparent prerequisite for membership on it is to be
a nuclear power. All 5 permanent members - U.S. Britain, France,
Russia, and China - are nuclear powers, surely no coincidence. I then
remarked that it didn't seem fair that the EU had 2 seats on the SC,
and may get a third if Germany's recent proposal to join is accepted.
I argued that perhaps the SC should be made more representative of
the world's population by including several new members, and suggested
Brazil as a possibility to represent South America, as well as India
and perhaps South Africa in 20-30 years time. But I pointed out that
since Brazil was non-nuclear that it didn't stand a chance for
admission. I did predict that since India went nuclear 6-7 years ago
that it would likely be admitted very soon.

So I'm all for a nuclear Brazil. The U.S. has no right to tell other
countries they can or can't have nuclear weapons. We do presume to
do so with countries hostile to us like Iran and North Korea, but
Brazil has never been an enemy of the U.S. If anything, I think the
current U.S. statements were made to create the impression that
North Korea and Iran aren't being singled out for their nuclear
programs. In other words, it's just talk, the U.S. won't escalate
it beyond this.

Brazil has developed a much cheaper way to make enriched uranium and
this is a intelectual property. However, Americans are curious about
it. Corporate profiters want to learn how to make this cheap enriched
uranium. So, "Americans" (not the people) have pressured the IAEA to
"inspect" this, probably to steal this technology.

Anyway, I think that USA has no moral to impose a nuclear non
proliferation control. First of all, US has the most dangerous nuclear
power, capable to destroy the entire planet. Therefore, US is the real
threat and there is nobody to control this country. Does US accept
such inspections? And what happens to countries without nuclear power,
like Iraq? If you got some nuclear weapons, like North Korea does, you
would be safer.

It's obvious that US is an evil empire, hijacked by criminal
corporations, willing to conquer, exploit and steal the entire world.
The Iraq war has proved that. So, if Brazil is secretly building a
nuclear weapon, it's just for self defense, because there is an evil
empire planning criminal actions, like we have seem in Iraq.

We Brazilians don't buy the official story about 911. Nobody can prove
anything Bush says. Bush proved to be a liar. 911 is a blank check and
CIA could have done that. Even if Al Qaeda really exists and did that
911 thing, the US government is responsible because CIA created Bin
Laden and Al Qaeda (see the Russian/Afeghan war). 911 was the
consequence of an evil US foreigner policy. Therefore, 911 is a
problem between Al Qaeda and USA, and we Brazilians don't want to
support Bush nor Bin Laden, because they are both evil asses. So, we
didn't like when Bush said: "You are with me, or you are with the
terrorists".

Anyway, I don't believe that Brazil is building a nuclear weapon, but
it should. I do believe that the US nuclear weapons, speacially after
the end of cold war, were built to attack other countries, to promote
threats and conquer the world. This American "self defense" rethoric
is just bullshit. Again, Iraq has proved that. Therefore, the rest of
the world should try to protect itself, because America was hijacked
by criminal corporations and Bush has his finger on the red button.
