The Pinochet File: A Declassified Dossier on Atrocity and
Accountability
Peter Kornbluh, ed.
Description: From Politics and Prose in Washington, DC, Peter Kornbluh
of the National Security Archive discusses the recently declassified
files concerning Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet. Mr.
Kornbluh is the editor of "The Pinochet File." Published on the 30th
anniversary of General Pinochet's military coup, the book makes public
many of the secret records that attest to U.S. government complicity
with Pinochet. The narrative includes transcripts of Nixon, Kissinger
and other cabinet members discussing how to dismantle the pro-Marxist
Allende government, White House cables welcoming General Pinochet to
power and CIA, National Security Council and State Department reports
on the September 1976 car bombing deaths of Orlando Letelier and Ronni
Moffitt. Following his presentation, Mr. Kornbluh answers questions
from the audience.

Author Bio: Peter Kornbluh is the director of the National Security
Archive's Chile Documentation Project. Mr. Kornbluh led the campaign
to declassify the official documentation of the history of U.S.
government support for the Pinochet dictatorship. Mr. Kornbluh is also
the editor of "Bay of Pigs Declassified: The Secret CIA Report on the
Invasion of Cuba," and co-editor of "The Cuban Missle Crisis 1962" and
"The Iran-Contra Scandal: The Declassified History."
