Reporters Without Borders to hold anti-Castro protest in Paris
Paris, Sep 22, 2003 (EFE via COMTEX) -- Spanish author Jose Semprun is scheduled to lead a demonstration here next week organized by Reporters Without Borders and an organization called "Sin Visa" (No Visa) to express "solidarity with the Cuban people" and protest against the "repression" practiced by Fidel Castro's government. Plans for the demonstration were announced Monday by the Paris-based press watchdog, known by the French initials RSF. Stressing the motto "Cuba yes, Castro no," organizers intend to show "the other face of (Castro's) regime" via witnesses' testimony, texts by Cuban authors, censored songs and videotapes shot on the island. In addition to Semprun, formerly Spain's education and culture minister, Cuban authors Eduardo Manet and Zoe Valdes and Cuban exile representative Ileana de la Guardia are scheduled to take part in Monday's event. Also expected are Spanish Film Academy President Marisa Paredes, Spanish author Fernando Savater, French actors Pierre Arditi, Ariane Ascaride, Catherine Deneuve and Sophie Marceau, French journalist Edwy Plenel, French philosopher Edgar Morin, and Italian author Antonio Tabucchi. lmpg/kb/mphttp://www.efe.es http://investor.stockpoint.com/leftn....asp?Mode=cuba |
