Palestinian religious leader urges Muslims to foil Zionist designs against
Aqsa Mosque Mar 1, 2004, 19:41 Occupied Jerusalem - The Supreme Sharia judge in Palestine, Sheikh Taysir Tamimi, has urged Muslims around the world to be "attentive and vigilant" concerning Zionist plots against the Aqsa Mosque, one of Islam's holiest shrines. Speaking to reporters in Ramallah Monday, Tamimi said Muslims would never accept Zionist raids and incursions into Islamic holy places. He described the storming of the Aqsa Mosque by Zionist police forces as a "a criminal act and brazen affront to Muslim sensibilities." Tamimi accused the Zionist authorities of wanting to test the limits of Muslim patience, saying the Zionist regime was awaiting the opportune time to take over or destroy the Aqsa Mosque. The Islamic official also accused the Zionists of endangering the foundations of the ancient Islamic structure by continued digging and excavation works in its vicinity. Two weeks ago, an ancient passage pavement leading to the Al-Aqsa mosque collapsed, ostensibly as a result of the excavation underneath the Haram al Sharif esplanade. On Friday, hundreds of armed policemen attacked thousands of worshipers soon after the Juma'a congregational prayers. As many as forty worshipers were injured, mainly as a result of gas inhalation. At least two people required hospitalization. http://www.palestine-info.co.uk/ |
