11/2/04 New York Times editorial about voting in Hawaii
We're national now. Small state Hawaii rated an editorial in the New
York Times. It's about Hawaii as a battleground state. Best part was
at the end. They even mentioned the Jasmine Trias angle. <G>
"Blue Hawaii, Maybe Not" teaser
"There's irony to all this politicking: the Census Bureau ranks Hawaii
at the bottom in national voter participation. It estimated that in
2000, only 44 percent of eligible residents voted.
In 2004, we don't know whether Hawaii has shaken off its electoral
passivity. But here's one encouraging sign: Last spring, Jasmine
Trias, a Hawaii ****ager of much charm and limited talent, made the
finals of the "American Idol" TV competition, much to the judges'
annoyance, thanks to a blizzard of call-in votes from back home.
Hawaii, which has 1.3 million people, logged 1.32 million votes. Those
were only the calls that went through. There were five million
attempts."

BTW, the editorial to their Times readers was "Vote, No Matter What".

If you haven't voted already, go vote Hawaii.
