When I lived in Hilo a long time ago, a sure sign whether or not we had
an
earthquake was to immediately look out the window at the electrical
wires.
If the wires were swaying, definitely an earthquake. If not, no
earthquake.
Dunno these days whether or not those wires are still hung on poles in
Hilo
as opposed to being placed underground as in areas here on the
Mainland, but
they were/are a rather good indicator.
