Default Is there any peace and quiet anywhere in hawaii

Assuming I can afford it, and assuming I have a job lined up, is there
anyplace to live where I can get some sleep, and not be bothered by noisy
{pick one} tourist, neighbors, helicopters,boats,cars, tourist,trucks,
planes,kids,animals, TV, music,bugs,tourist,city noise, singing,
lights, bars, aliens, tidal waves, experiment 626 or crime. Pretty much I want
to live in the woods, in peace, drive to work, go home ,hide out and be
left alone. and have my car be there in the morning. is t his a pipe dream
or what.

Hmm its hard to say. O'ahu is extremely over-populated unless you can afford
to live in the countryside but even then its noisy. Hmmm I would say on
Hawai'i (the Big Island) its not as congested but is getting that way over
time but its hard to say though possible

Tantalus is very quiet. You need to capture your own rain water though
(very old Corky cartoon in Star-Bulletin: "Why do you think we all
have waterbeds up here?"). And people race and/or make out on round
top drive (I used to do both). If they made it a gated community the
homes up there would triple in value.

There are plenty of places on Hawaii Island with peace and quiet.
Mauka Honaunau for one. But look here on Hawaii before a densely
populated place like Oahu--which I love and where i was born, but
quiet.....? We have plenty of places on Hawaii Island.

Definitely pretty possible in Puna, and maybe some places on the Hamakua
Coast.

Quietest place I've ever been was the Mauna Kea Trail at about 10-12
thousand feet (tourist flights don't tend to go that high but... well,
ya can't put a house there.

to quote from misc.rural: 1000 acres in a valley and you have to own the
rim. Hard to find on Hawaii, and probably not exactly affordable if you do.

As helicopters are concerned: When in Hawaiian Acres I hear my neighbors'
phone (500 ft away) or Hilo airport (15 miles away) more often than I
hear helicopters.

Of course there's dogs, weed wackers, sometimes somebody gets a lot bulldozed
close enough (within a mile or two) that you can hear, etc.

And of course the crickets make a lot of noise too.
and it is only about 1/2 mile to the nearest coqui frog infestation.

IQ and decibels seem to be reversely proportional anywhere in the world.
The lower the IQ, the higher the decibels, and inversely... E.g., the
louder some car's radio blares, the less educated the broadcasted program
seem to be. Ever heard a car blaring Ravel's Daphnis and Chloe, a lecture
by Ludwig von Mises, Chick Corea's Duet Suite, or the Legend or Daruma?
Unlikely. Usually the louder the content, the less worth it is to listen
do. One gets the impression certain individuals try to compensate their
cultural/economic marginality with decibels.

All in all, your quest of "peace and quiet" doesn't have to be necessarily
a quest for a place without people. It could be as well a quest for a place
with intelligent neighbors who have a good education and well-raised kids.
If you want a forest-like ambience, you can plant trees all over the garden
until you can't see out. It is great not only for privacy, but for a
healthier environment for the kids, too.
