Hussein brothers
I have no idea what may have been the vices or virtues of Saddam
Hussein's sons, and I am certainly not prepared to form an opinion on
such on the basis of propaganda in the light of the weapons of mass
destruction debacle. I would however offer these comments in the light
of their deaths.
Whatever crimes they may have been guilty of, as a Christian I do not
and will not rejoice over the death of any human being and find such
celebration distateful in the extreme.
In the continued absence of evidence of weapons of mass destruction
the legality of the occupation of Iraq remains dubious in the extreme
and thus there is as much grounds for considering Iraqi attacks upon
occupying forces to be the actions of heroic freedom fighters as acts
of terrorism.
The complexities of Middle-Eastern/Islamic politics may result in what
appear to be brutal regimes. However to seek to impose external
solutions will invariably lead to far greater misery upon those
concerned.
Finally, and again without pre-judgement of the Hussein brothers, I
believe we are entering an extremely dangerous era when one nation
state can simply eliminate without trial all those it disagrees with,
whether within its own borders or, as in this case, within another
sovereign country.
