Story creep in Baghdad. Yesterday, the reported vehicle used for the bombing was a cement mixer truc
Most likely Iran, but not Saudi Arabia. Bush & Co. have too many business
alliances with the Saudis.
Unfortunately, some Americans still believe the Bush assumptions that when
we marched into Iraq, the grateful people would shed 5000 years of history
and fall down praising us as their liberators and new Allah. While no
American is sorry that Saddam Hussein is gone, all we have really done so
far is open a hornet's nest. Our occupation plans and reconstruction plans
appear to have been non-existent. We fly by the seat of our pants in
dangerous territory. The simple idea, that the Iraqis - and indeed, the
Arab world - would not look kindly on us trying to democratize them and
fight back seems not to have been considered by our team of experts. The
American people are shocked because they are still in the "you should be
grateful to us for ending Saddam's regime of terror" mode. The true reality
of what is happening, not only in Iraq but among the Arabs who are coming
together to fight us has not sunk in. It is quite a lot to sink in, as
the Arabs historically have not come together on much of anything. But the
Americans trying to ruin their way of life is causing them to overlook
centuries of hatred for each other.
Regards,
Joe
