Default Adams speaks on peace process, diaspora in U.S.

Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams spoke to an audience of several hundred in
the southern U.S. on Wednesday, addressing topics ranging from his
involvement in the Irish peace process to the role Irish-Americans play in
those events.

Arriving in New Orleans Tuesday night, Mr Adams spoke of his efforts to
bring justice, human rights and civil liberties to all in Ireland.

Adams discussed how this initiative has and will continue to ask for the
assistance of those of Irish descent all over the world. He explained how
earlier that morning he and his entourage had traveled to a memorial for the
over 10,000 thousand Irishmen who died while building the many c****s within
the city.

``Probably 160 odd years ago, when people were forced to leave Ireland
mostly because they couldn't stay at home, they came to the United States,''
Adams said. ``When they lived in this part of the world they adapted
themselves as indentured servants like those that dug the c****s within New
Orleans. They were from all parts of Ireland and still Irish at heart till
death.''

These individuals, Adams continued, whose ancestors are still within New
Orleans, and elsewhere throughout the world, are part of the connected
network of global Irishmen who still care for the betterment of their
homeland.

``Interestingly enough the Irish people are everywhere still,'' Adams said.
``Everywhere the Irish are found, on every continent and in every state
within your country. It is that diaspora of people and the fact that they
are still working actively with us has helped us with keeping the peace back
home.''

Adams is preparing for a vigorous election campaign, arguably the most
important in living memory.

He said he was looking for a Republic to be formed at the end of the peace
process.

``This will bring about an end to partition, and a united Irish people
living together within the same borders. We believe every people has a right
to be free, and, such, the same applies to the Irish.'' Adams praised the
United States for its work in assisting this peace process.

``We have been lucky in that both the Clinton and Bush administrations have
been supportive of our policies,'' Adams said. ``While Bush has not been as
vocal about the polices as Clinton was, in his defense, the policy is still
the same, and we still feel the same amount of support from the United
States.''

The World Affairs Forum at Tulane University, the Tulane Celtic Society and
the Payson Graduate Student Association sponsored Adams' appearance.

What a complete arsehole! Anything he/they are doing will result in the
complete reversal of his goals and more horror for all Irish people. God
PLEASE let Paisley and co in as they are the ONLY ones that will show what
true unionism is. Maybe then we have a hope.

Actually, the more I observe the situation there, the more I support
partition. This is because since 1922 the RoI has become a nice, liberal
state with 10 different democratic parties, clean air and water, great
education standards compared to the US, and a Euro- and world-inclusive
economy. Although it has its share of social issues and difficulties, it is
still a fantastic place. If the US could push all of its right-wing
conservatives into Texas, seal it off like a colostomy bag and let them
fester in there on their own, the US would be a great place and not the
world's bully. Ireland has already done that with the North, sealing off
the Loyalists and leaving them to themselves. THE LAST THING that Ireland
needs, is right wing religious conservatives pushing their way into the
republic's political process. Leave them there in the North to fester. The
RoI has gotten on with life and business, it is a civilised and pleasant
place, and it does not deserve to have fist-minded meatheads like that
dropped in their lap.

I can't stand the Religious Right. They are the ones who elected Bush and
are intent on supporting shameful ecological and social policy and
warmongering. My life would have been a far nicer and more civil place,
growing up in the Southern US, without them there. For them, religion is
used as an excuse for bigotry. It's no different in NI, most loyalists
aren't even deserving of the term culchies, they're just ignorant bigoted
white trash. Let 'em have their nasty little corner. Religious-right-wing
Unionists do not deserve to have a voice of control, they're little better
than National Fronters, and no matter how many people that opinion may
represent, the Unionist view does not deserve power that can affect the
South. They are ignorant and stagnant.

So there will be some natives who will protest. They can leave or take it
on themselves to outbreed the conservative constituency in the long run.
There should be equal representation and powersharing for Catholics, but
they will never get an ideal state until the Unionists are outbred
permanently, and I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I don't really support the goal of a United Ireland anymore, only because I
hate Paisley as much as I hate Pat Robertson...and wish that he were shoved
into a corner he could rule, where only his cronies could vote for him.

Hope of what? Reversing the peace process and bringing us all back 20 years
to the "troubles"? is that what you desire?

<cut>

You could display some moral courage by not hating him but rather
realising that he is a fact of life and dealing with him in a way so
as to decrease his own hateful impact as much as possible.

Somehow, I think that Big Ian would like that.
