great pics Eddie! I see you managed to get the bright blue sky at the
castle also! I was amazed at the gorgeous weather for October and I managed
some similar photos. I love your night time pics of the castle. I was in
that internet cafe you have a pic of too!

I won't soon forget since I had an email from the kiddo titled "Money" LOL!
It simply said, don't move any money from my account, I'll explain
everything when you get home.

Thanks Eddie for the great shots down by the river Nore. That Nikon
really gets the job done. My vote for best picture would have to go to
# 2405. The detail in the stained glass window is excellent. I assume
that's from St Canice's cathedral. The prize for conjuring up
memories of Kilkenny I would give to shot # 2540, of the medieval
"Slip" joining two roads in the center of the town. The Butter
slip? It wouldn't be Kilkenny without those. But the one shot which
shocked me and left me depressed was the stump of the huge copper beach
on the parade ground to the right of the castle. Why, Why, Why ?
Those trees must have been 300 - 400 years old ! Pleasant memories of
sunny days under those trees are fondly remembered. Surely they would
not have cut them ALL down.

Up the black and amber ! BMc.

If it is #2327 a local informed me it was approx 1750, a "blue Oak"
and it was hit by lightening last year and had to be taken down. it
was more or less directly in front of the castle.

You obviously know the place well. !

It is indeed. ! Where is it. ? Did you use any post-processing ?

Digital photography ( or scanning) by it's nature, as you probably
know, will "soften" a picture, I notice a considerable improvement
when printing and to some degree on-line if a picture is sharpened,
after any tweeks to brightness or contrast. It gives the picture a lot
more "punch". !

My particuler "uncanny light" was only sharpened, no other
adjustments. I had never seen anything like it in Ireland before, it
was very unusual. Most of the coolpix pictures could do with some
processing and usually de-skewing, I usually choose one or two of my
favourites in each batch to process.... as most have people / family
in them they will probably never get publically posted.... but when
sharpened and printed the difference to the original is dramatic.
Worth trying. !

BTW http://www.colab.com are still doing 15" x 10"s from digitals for stg
0.95.each. !!

Beautiful Eddie, really made me miss it........I'll have to get back sooner

places we went!

just overall auto-contrast in photoshop. it's pretty representative of how
it looked in real life. i didn't treat the sky seperately from the
foreground. the clouds were black as sin. it was a huge thunderstorm front
heading our way, taken from the front door. it hit about 15 minutes after i
took the pic, though the worst of it actually missed us by a mile or two to
the south. it still took out the electrics, as usual... it's a good idea to
run round the house and unplug all the electronics and phones when one of
these is about to hit. they aren't all that uncommon, and can be really
quite spectacular. it turns the place into a quagmire, mind you, as you can
see from the er... garden. we need some more gravel.
the occasional tornado pops up in this kind of thunderstorm, which means you
have to leave the weather radio on all night. (they have a dedicated radio
warning system here that only carries weather warnings). the stupid thing
then wakes you up every 30 minutes to tell you there might be heavy rain
somewhere a couple of hundred miles away. it's supposed to be localised
warnings only, but in practice it seems to cover a wider area than you need.

it's cropped from a 2 megapix pic. i still haven't got round to buying a
decent resolution camera, although I HAVE A BIRTHDAY COMING UP, if anyone in
particular is interested... it was taken through the stormdoor glass as
well, which didn't help.

cheap... is that for a dye-sub print? i spend a small fortune in ink
cartridges, but it's nice to be able t mess around and watch the results
come out immediately.
