Since the mapmakers in question weren't English, how do you suppose
they would have confused New Finland with New Found Land when that can
only happen in English? For the sake of argument, how would even an
English speaker have heard "New Finland", which clearly doesn't sound
like "New Found Land", and made such a mistake?

As ever, you (and your informants) have a truly idiosyncratic set of
opinions about what kind of names "make sense".

To call a place New Jersey was unheard of in western culture--until
such time as someone named a place New Jersey. Duh.

Unfathomable reasons. Therefore, no motivation to believe it, unless
you have an agenda it happens to assist.

Harold, please tell us more about those languages. I am more or less
fluent in Swedish, Icelandic (ancient and modern), and Irish (modern
and early modern, but the era of early modern Irish begins in the
twelfth century AD), and understand quite a lot of Norwegian, Danish,
Faroese and Runic Scandinavian, not to mention Scottish Gaelic, but I
have never ever heard any mention of a language such as "Celt" or
"Viking". There certainly was a "Celtic", but only its daughter
languages have been do***ented - very extensively, though. But there
never has been a language called "Viking". The language of the Vikings
was Old Norse, and its most thoroughly do***ented dialect is Old
Icelandic, a language with a sophisticated literary culture.

As you have several times doubted the existence of a Scandinavian
literary culture, please look here:

No Viking ever settled in Greenland. Greenland was settled by Norwegian
farmers, none of whom were Vikings.

No Viking ever stepped foot on Greenland.

He's nit-picking. Trying to show that he knows what the word originally
meant. I for one took the word Viking to mean simply Scandinavian which is
what the word has come to mean.

cheers

How do you know whether they were "Men of the Bay i.e. Skaggerak" or
not?

I bet some of them were.

I assume you are referring to the 'little ice-age'. But, before that
there was the 'Roman Warm Period' with temperatures to which we are
now returning (haven't got there yet).
