Hmm...I have lots of native friends, some call themselves natives, some
aboriginals, some say they are members of the First Nations, some use the
name of their actual nation to describe themselves, ie., Cree, Mohawk, etc.,
some just say they are Canadian, a few of the older people still say that
they are Indian. I have yet to hear one call themself "American". I'd be
surprised if indigenous South Americans described themsleves that way,
"America" being such an imperialist, colonial concept.
