ISRAEL UNDERMINES INTERNATIONAL LAW (Shulman 9919)
TO SAVE A LIFE
Giving birth in Israel, a woman hemorrhaged so badly and in such manner as to
have small chance of survival without massive blood transfusions. All the
nurses and the doctor and a secretary with suitable blood type donated, but it
wasn't enough. A nurse went next door, to a yeshiva. 70 chassidim rushed over
and with their own blood saved that woman (Sheindel Weinbach, Jewish Press,
7/18, p.73).
ISRAEL UNDERMINES INTERNATIONAL LAW
Israel criticizes foreign countries for not differentiating between attacks on
soldiers and attacks on civilians. Hypocritically, neither does Israel. When
it describes attacks on its soldiers, it calls them terrorist attacks. When
asked to free prisoners, it does not differentiate between those who had
attacked soldiers and those who had attacked civilians. The former might be
released at war's end (which a truce is not). The latter are criminals against
humanity and should serve their full sentences.
"The 1949 Geneva Conventions ********ly include a category called 'unlawful
combatants,' who, unlike ordinary prisoners of war, can be tried by the country
they fought and kept in jail even after the end of hostilities."
"Unlawful combatants are defined as fighters who are not part of a regular
army, do not wear clear insignia, do not carry their arms openly and do not
aide by the rules of war- and since the 'laws of war' include refraining from
deliberate attacks on civilians, all the Palestinian (Arab) organizations meet
these criteria."
By freeing bombers, "Israel tacitly declared that it agrees: Someone who plants
a bomb in a crowded downtown area is neither a murderer nor a criminal, but a
seeker of peace and freedom who deserves release as part of a 'peace process."
Israel undermines international law (Evelyn Gordon, Intl. Jer. Post, 7/18,
p.13). Lacks good concept of law.
ARABS DEMAND RACHEL'S TOMB
Oslo arranged for the city of Bethlehem to be controlled by the P.A., but kept
Rachel's Tomb, of exclusive interest to the Jewish people, under Israeli
military control. Now the Bethlehem Mayor urges the P.A. to refuse to accept
the return of control over Bethlehem unless Israel also withdraws its forces
from Rachel's tomb (Jewish Press, 7/18, M16).
How typically Arab to raise the price of a concluded agreement! The P.A. and
its people have destroyed ancient synagogues and Joseph's Tomb and are
destroying Jewish artifacts on the Temple Mount. They have assaulted Rachel's
Tomb and have tried to prevent worshippers from visiting it. The Arabs would
destroy and desecrate it, and claim ever louder and with greater cheek that the
Jews have no historical presence in the land, if Israeli troops withdrew from
it. Better to annex it to Israel, which it is very near.
ARAB REFUGEE POLL
A poll found that most Arab "refugees" don't wish to move to Israel. The poll
is irrelevant. It doesn't matter what the Arabs want in Israel (Jewish Press,
7/18, Ed.).
Junk mail deleted unread. Constructive criticism welcome.)
