Hi Mr or Mrs Arsniva

| I'd like to know the name of this tree - could you please help me?
| Photos:

Sometimes, in the juvenile stage, the trees' leaves are a bit different
from the adult ones. The plant in the photo is flower-less. I don't know
neither if the seed has a wing nor their size, nor their shape. So it's
hard to say accurately the tree's name!

But it appears to be 'Bursera simarouba' as you can see in this photo:

In Mexico this tree is known as 'Chacah' or 'Palo mulato'. Is a species
very spread in Tropical America, used sometimes as a 'living fence'. The
wood is soft, white, with a bitter taste.

| My friends brought the seeds for me from Guatemala in May 2003, so in
| the pics the plant is about two months old. They say it's a tree, very
| tall, with flowers on the top. No one knows the name, naturally.
|
| There is no newsgroup soc.culture.guatemala, that's why I'm bothering
| soc.culture.mexican with the issue sorry & thanks in advance.

Thanks to you!

Very useful - thank you! I also have a couple of other "exo" plants
(exotic for us, naturally, not for you but all of them, except the
Tamarindus Indica, are quite young. The tamarindus is now about five
years old, and it, like my other plants too, was also grown from seeds
which friends bring me from their trips.

Let's see if the baby Gumbo Limbo / Palo mulato survives the long and
dark Finnish winter...

Thanks.
