Default Travel in NZ in October November

My wife and I have an opportunity to spend 2 to 3 months in Newzealand
this year. We would like to do it by camper van. We would plan to
arrive about mid to late September in Aukland. What we are looking
for is a private rental of a campervan for 7 or 8 weeks. There are
many campervan rental agencies on the net and I have browsed many of
them. I find their prices too high for our budget. I'm hoping that
there are those native Newzealanders who have their own campervan
sitting idle for those months and would like to get some revenue for
it. If you are such a person or could direct me to where I could do
further exploration, I would really appreciate it. We are just
looking for a small unit that sleeps two people.

Thanks

Gord Pope

Good luck - most camper van owners are very reluctant to do this because
insurance becomes a problem.

Try the NZ Motor Caravan Association - it may be worth advertising there
(and it's probably worth joining). http://www.nzmca.org.nz

Also many of the smaller independant campervan hire comapnies may be a
better bet. Have a search at http://www.yellowpages.co.nz

http://www.wendekreisen.co.nz/ were reasonably priced last time I looked.

Check out the regulations regarding camping here. You can't just park by a
beach and camp. Most places have a camping ground where you must pay to
stay. You can connect your power there and they have cooking and ablution blocks. Geopelia

Depends which local authority controls the area and how you are camping.
Many places are letting vehicles that meet the self containment standard
(NZS 5465:2001) freedom camp.
