In the USA all the cops have guns. Even when they are off duty.

During the summer after I graduated from high school, this loser who
was appropriately named Mark Lackey was arrested for possession of
marijuana.

A few weeks later, a friend and I were sitting at a pizza parlor.
Lackey came in and sat down with us. He pulled a bag of marijuana out
of his pocket and asked my friend if he would hold it for him for a
few hours. My friend refused and then Lackey asked me if I would do
it. I also refused. Lackey got really agitated and left.

About ten minutes later, a police car pulled up to the restaurant and
two uniformed cops stormed in. They grabbed my friend and I, and
pulled us into the men's room. They made us stand with our hands
against the wall and frisked us. They were so pissed that they didn't
find anything!

Neither of us had ever messed with drugs at all, and we weren't about
to do any favors for that jerk in any event.
